The advanced account allows for up to three users as well bill pay and time tracking functions.

The basic package costs $25 a month while the advanced costs $40 a month. There is an option to either get a month free or 50% off the first three months for either type of account.

Beyond the monthly account cost, there are processing fees per transaction as follows:

Overview

QuickBooks Payments is a bit of an anomaly in the credit card processing industry because it’s really designed to integrate only with QuickBooks’s ecosystem. The company, most famous for its accounting and taxes software, is rounding out their service package with this intuitive payments option.  QuickBooks Payments is not offered to businesses that do not have an online account with the company, which means you’ll have to open one if you don’t have one already. The monthly charge of the account might not be cost effective for every merchant. Nonetheless, QuickBooks Payments provides some excellent, user friendly features which most businesses will find useful. The company does not service high risk merchants.

Features and Functionality

Custom Invoices

QuickBooks allows you to format invoices sent to customers by adding services provided, payment schedules, branding aesthetics and more. It also allows you to offer the method of payment – credit/debt card, ACH bank transfer or digital wallet.

Schedule Recurring Payments

The QuickBooks Payments system allow you to set up recurring invoices, using the same payment method, without having to revisit the invoices every scheduled payment period.

Affordable Hardware

If you sign up for GoPayment, the company will send you free QuickBooks chip and magstripe card reader. Additional mobile readers only cost $19. QuickBooks also offers an All In One card reader for mobile, contactless wallets like Apple or Google Pay for only $49.

Hardware Requirements

The GoPayment app is available for free download on Google Play & Apple app stores. To use it, you must be a client of QuickBooks Payments.  It works on Android and iOS products including smartphones and tablets. QuickBooks sells an array of readers and terminals. Pricing runs from $19 for a simple magstripe reader to upwards of $1,000 for advanced POS stations.

Integrations & Add-ons

The main advantage of QuickBooks Payments is that it is part of the QuickBooks ecosystem.  As a platform, QuickBooks offers integrations with over 650 popular business apps including some of the biggest in the industry such as Amazon, Square, Paypal , Shopify and more.

Ease of Use

If you are already a QuickBooks client then the set up for Payments couldn’t be easier. Upon approval, all you really need to do is connect your Payments account to QuickBooks and turn on online payments for invoices.  You’ll need hardware for the in-person transactions but aside from that, you’re ready to go. The interface is very intuitive, user friendly and customizable in many cases. You should see the first batch of payments in your account within 5 business days.

Customer Support

QuickBooks Payments does not have a 24/7 support option. It’s operated during business hours only which can be a problem, especially if you have an urgent problem which needs to be addressed. Another drawback is that QuickBooks Payments falls under that large QuickBooks ecosystem and is lumped together on their website so it might take a little longer to navigate to the relevant sections. With that said, there is an extensive video tutorial library and community section on the site which houses thousands of searchable Q & A’s.

Final Word

There are many tasks you might need to carry out when running a business such as paying bills, running payroll, tracking inventory, managing costs and more. QuickBooks has solutions for all of them. Accepting payments is another one of those tasks which the company has set up a convenient and well-rounded solution for as well. It might not be the cheapest or have all the bells and whistles, but for those operating in the QuickBooks infrastructure, it seems to be the most viable and expansive system to choose. It certainly has major advantages over other in the field, especially if you’re interested in expanding services beyond payments. If not, then it might its worth looking into other merchant service providers as well.
